It had to happen. I’ve managed to escape any form of RSI for 39 years, pretty remarkable when you consider the amount of time I spend hunched over a desk using mice and keyboards.
Over the weekend I started to feel what I can only describe as ‘pins and needles’ in the pinky side of my right hand while using my mouse. I’ve been using a Logitech G903 as it’s been comfortable and is great for gaming – but obviously, something about it was wrong.
My other half Nat has a Logitech MX Master mouse she hasn’t been using for a while; I gave this a try, and the strange feeling vanished almost immediately – which is good, no permanent damage.
I decided I didn’t want to continue taking risks and so decided to get myself three new input devices.
An MX Master 2S for general usage & gaming – It feels like the overall shape is better so should improve things regardless of any other changes.
A Logitech MX Ergo (trackball) for my intensive day to day work.
A Vortex 75% mechanical keyboard to replace the non-mechanical apple keyboard I’ve been using for a few years.
My idea is that by switching to a better keyboard and alternating between two different pointing devices (mouse and trackball), I’ll avoid any further issues. I hope it works; I find my hands useful – it would be great to be able to continue using them.
